I'm not sure NIP-42 auth mixes well with NWC (nostr wallet connect)...
NWC goal is to allow you (or any other app) to access your wallet in a permission manor from anywhere. if the relay your using requires NIP-42 auth then that seems to directly contradict NWC

The issue is hashing the feed, whats the standard way to turn an XML file into a string? do you take the whole file or do you format it in a very specific way?
If you take the whole file as a raw text string, then it becomes invalid as soon as you add the signature to it because you've changed it. and if podcast apps where smart enough to remove the signature from the XML file before verifying, they would have to be specific about what they removed. because one missed char or white space and the file will be invalid :(

If the k:33333 signed the feed GUID then that at least would prove that you say you "own" the GUID, but still the feed could be modified and there is know way to know what the original one is 😞

That's a signature of nothing though. sure the pubkey signed that event but it only proves that they signed a k:33333 event, it doesn't relate to the feed at all
For example I could easily copy that feed, modify it, host it on my own site and say its your feed

The difficulty of cryptographic signatures is that they only work if your able to hash and sign the content itself. otherwise they are kind of pointless

If your building a new kind of nostr app then pick a new kind of event. even if you change it in the future its not a big deal since there aren't any users yet and you don't have to worry about migrating data
For example I built https://github.com/hzrd149/cherry-tree a while back and used the kind 2001 since no one else was using it
I have a feeling most new devs default to kind 1 since they can easily debug it. or they are experienced nostr devs use kind 1 for "discoverability" ( so it shows up in the social feed ). either way I think the only solution to this laziness is to track down the dev and make them use their own app till they realize how bad the UX is

The key difference is what you mentioned, the signature. It allows Nostr events to live everywhere since thier authenticity is proven by the signature
RSS does not have this so it relies on the domain to prove its authenticity
Besides that the are functionally the same, except that RSS has a long proven track record and 10x more integrations than Nostr
That said I don't think the solution is to just copy RSS into Nostr, or replace RSS with nostr. There are ways Nostr can be integrated with RSS without replacing it and breaking all the existing RSS interactions
I also have to point out that RSS is XML, which any self respecting dev should shun like the plague :D

noStrudel should be adding nostr: prefixes to bech32 nostr tokens, but there maybe bugs in the stable version
I'm in the process of writing tests for this code in the next version of the app to ensure it happens 100% of the time. also the next version will only render embeds if they have the nostr: prefix so it should be more obvious when something is broken

Also I recommend anyone who is serious about web development to get familiar with the performance monitoring tools in Chrome / FireFox. If you know how to use them you can quickly find the one method that is causing things to lag

But ive also noticed what your talking about. For myself I usually don't respond to posts unless tagged in them.
I'm not sure why, but I think the lack of an algorithm means that I end up seeing posts that are interesting, but nothing that really gets me mad or what makes me want to respond.

Events in the k>=10000<20000 are replaceable by kind. So each pubkey only has one of them. A good example is the k:10002 events
Events in the k>=30000<40000 are replacable by "d" tag. So when a new event is published it replaces the old one with the same "d" tag. A good example would be the NIP-23 article events

Added a pretty small but cool feature to noStrudel. when you share a note there is an option to mirror the media to your blossom servers so you effectively take ownership of it. should help even more with the censorship resistants

yes, although I'm not sure whats the best way to detect if a note is too long. number of characters is the simplest but doesn't take into account of images or other embedded notes
using the height of the html element itself would be best, but to do that I have to render it first then measure it. which causes the timeline to jump around
I haven't put much effort into it though because it hasn't effected me too much

Downgrading to react-router v6 because v7 introduces a bunch of useless SSR features. and because its all about SSR now they removed the simple "loading screen" functionality, so now when you click on a link nothing happens for about 0.5 -1sec while the next view loads. vs what was before where it would imminently switch to a loading screen until the next view loaded
This is the second library so far that I regularly use where I have a better experience using the older version then trying to upgrade to their newer server side rendered crap
Chakra UI is the second one. their v3 introduces a whole shadcn style cli (and AI integration) for creating and managing components... which is completely useless because I don't want to customize the component I just want to use them...
Anyways seems like somehow these companies have found a way to convert front-end development libraries into a subscription service that requires you to use their tools and their servers to build and run a local browser app

Thanks, I agree that it could look better but I've never had an eye for design so everything I've built always has that classic "used bootstrap" look where I pick a default framework and throw buttons on the screen
My focus is functionality so that probably wont change, but maybe one day ill find someone who knows design and is willing to help out 😁

Ideally the events would just be a new kind of NIP-51 lists / sets with NIP-92 "imeta" tags. that should give plenty of flexibility to add thumbnails, alt, and summaries to images so the are easier to search for

I don't want gif packs showing up in my reaction emoji picker. gifs are generally bigger images with text or memes. and custom reactions are smaller images for "liking" a note
Also NIP-30 does not have support for thumbnails which is going to be very important for larger gifs. IMO a new kind with "imeta" tags is going to be much easier to work with

For building nostr native gif keyboards maybe we need to start with gif collections or gif lists before we starting building a gif search tool
Maybe we could add a k:10915 and k:30915 to NIP-51 that would work similar to the NIP-30 emoji sets with ["gif", "name", "<url>", "<optional thumb>] tags
Then tools like https://gifbuddy.lol/ could have a "add to collection" buttons on gifs and then social apps could pull the collections down and allow users to pick from them
Then stage two could be searching the gif collection of your friends and WoT...

I integrated the much sought after tenor git keyboard into #noStrudel and managed to get a working API key from google to test. but they deleted my project before I was even able to deploy the app...
So if anyone has a API I could borrow I would appreciate it. otherwise I'm just going to give up on the tenor gif API since google seems to ban you unless you give full KYC

This wont work for many reasons, but mainly because as you pointed out the RSS feeds are generally larger than the max event size most relays have set
Also using kind 1's for data is generally a bad idea since it conflicts with social clients (bad UX) but I'm guessing your using them mostly to test
@npub1yvg…6pv9 if you want to distribute RSS feeds via nostr then something like blossom + nsite ( https://github.com/nostr-protocol/nips/pull/1538 ) might work better since its a lot closer to traditional http. but its still early days and it while it "works" the documentation isn't written 😀

As the developer of the only nostr app to integrate the original nostr-signing-device https://github.com/lnbits/nostr-signing-device I REALLY want to see this built and would be willing to help out in any way I can
I don't know rust and I generally only work with JavaScript in the web browser. But if it was possible to make it compatible with the web serial API then I would be more than happy to integrate it into #noStrudel

New version of #noStrudel with some new features and a lot of cleanup under the hood
Most of this version was cleaning up the core of the app and building out the applesauce library

#asknostr I have a request for the hardware / Pi developers out there.
I want to run a small Go or Rust (khatru, haven, rs-nostr-relay, or chorus) based relay on a Raspberry PI, obviously its going to be using web sockets but I want to also connect to it over a USB serial interface like the https://github.com/lnbits/nostr-signing-device
My goal is to build a personal pocket relay that can connected to wifi (and discoverable) or connected via USB to a computer and managed from there.
Bonus points if we could also find a way to talk to it over Bluetooth, although I doubt ble has enough bandwidth
