I'm halfway through book 3 of the Three Body Problem. It's an interesting story, highly plot driven (with some forgivable gaping holes), and has very uninteresting character development. It feels very Chinese to me.
My main problem with it is I'm pretty sure part of the reason it was exported from China was in order to normalize collectivist ideas in the American mind. I don't even know if the author endorses collectivism, but even just normalizing the concept has an effect. Obama's endorsement on the book is my first red flag. I've seen lots of positive reviews on nostr, just be aware you might be getting brainwashed.

It would require downloading a lot of data first of all (Coracle is 100% client-side). It would also be easily gamed without some kind of web of trust bootstrapping, although that would be doable (but also even more computationally intensive). It also allows people who white-label coracle to tailor the recommendations to their users.

Have you considered coracle's custom feeds? It allows for incorporating dvms without relying entirely on them. Feeds can also be saved, shared, and bookmarked, creating a marketplace of feeds.

Bank security practices are so byzantine and broken it's absurd. I spent 45 minutes helping my mom unlock her Chase account today (which was locked because she sent $500 via zelle to a friend who is in the hospital!) Here's how it went:
- Locked for no reason
- Number on website goes to automated answering machine
- It asks for her debit card number (what?) to identify the account
- This is lost and also needs to be replaced. There is no alternative method, 0 doesn't get us to a person
- I call Chase customer service, different number, very similar system, but I am able to get a person on the phone
- They verify her identity by making me hand the phone to my mom and ask her to state her name (what). They also ask for her ssn and a security phrase she doesn't know, although she does manage to share the security phrase for her other bank.
- They re-order the debit card and transfer us to another department, where we do the whole verification charade again
- They send a 2fa code via sms. We receive it, but the site shows an error and won't let us put the code in.
- They then send a different code, and ask me to give it to them over the phone, which the text message explicitly says not to do.
- Despite my better judgment I gave them the number. They then do something on the backend, and I enter a *new* code they gave me over the phone into the web portal to get it unblocked.
It's no wonder old people get scammed! Force someone to deal with this BS for 20 years and anyone would get confused and give the wrong code to the wrong person.

I think something about the way graphene emulates google play services stuff introduces a ton of latency. The same phone is buttery smooth on calyx, but so so bad on graphene. There were lots of other weird little UI bugs too, just things not working as expected.

I've never really understood seed phrases, except for use in reducing error for physical backups (or memorization). These are not things people do for nostr keys. For every other situation, copy/paste from a password manager exists, which is actually _more_ familiar to new users, particularly to people who use password managers with strong passwords.

Seed phrase vs nsec is one debate, primary key vs alternative keys is another.
Seed phrases and nsecs have trade-offs. I'm not super opinionated about one vs the other. But the more formats keys have, the more confusing it is for users. The ideal UX should probably be "paste your secret" and the client can parse it as a hex private key, nsec, or seed words.
On primary keys vs alternative keys, I definitely agree that the ability to make single-purpose accounts is important. But the most common use case for chat is to start a conversation with someone you already know, which requires knowing their user id. Otherwise you lose the advantage that having a social identity layer gives you.
Maybe if you want to surface that decision, you could start the app in "secret mode", which encourages one-off identities, or "easy mode" which asks for their existing nostr account and allows for social discovery.
Speaking for myself, I would almost always use the insecure mode. Conversations partners knowing who I am is a feature, not a bug. If I ever do need to contact someone secretly, I should be able to bootstrap a fresh key from my normal social context without revealing my identity.

The relay stuff is definitely a work in progress (both from a protocol point of view as well as on coracle). The idea is that kind 10050s are a relay list specifically for DMs (see NIP 17 for details), and clients aren't supposed to send messages anywhere else. Coracle only looks at inbox relays when fetching DMs, which is likely why you didn't find the test events.

Swapped out my pubkey for yours, and it worked just fine first try. My best guess is it's a relay selections issue. First, make sure damus isn't rate limiting you when you send the message, which can happen sometimes. Second, make sure the client you're using is asking for DMs on the correct relays. In Coracle, you'll want to mark damus as an "inbox" relay in your relay settings.

It's a good one. And yeah, huge tradeoffs, with a really interesting spectrum. For example, if you try to protect your privacy by using one-off keys for every website, you've just re-created single-use logins, but with no password recovery. We have to come up with a framework for when to generate a new key, when to re-use one, and which key to re-use — then of course make software that helps users manage that complexity.

It's very close, but NIP 96 priotitizes server-side transforms over referential transparency. If I am understanding it correctly, if you download a file by hash, you are not guaranteed to get the original file. That means you can't freely and confidently replicate files the way you can replicate nostr events, because the hash can't always be verified.

The best I can do is give you a script that will give you a list of key share events. Coracle should be doing this automatically and importing the keys, so my best guess is that 1. you didn't create the group, 2. the relays you're using don't have the key share event you're looking for, or 3. the key share event didn't get published (due to a bug, or maybe because you created the group before I added admin key shares).

This is by design, so you can share administration. You can find the admin key under your keys page. It's also sent to yourself via nip 59, but those events don't always survive on relays, so I recommend backing up the admin key.

Just merged https://github.com/nostr-protocol/nips/pull/1185, which introduces NIP 73 for external identities via the `i` tag. A different form of them is already in use in NIP 39, for linking external identities to user profiles.
NIP 73 IDs are instead fully-qualified, and include a second parameter which is a suggested URL, which allows clients to easily link out when they don't want to special case every ID type.
What's neat about this is that this will allow platforms like Fountain to reference podcast episodes in nostr comments, which can be displayed and linked out to by regular nostr clients, expanding the scope of the nostr-enabled web!
