Gpt 6 Astra is very similar experience for me so far as 5.6 Sol.
Calling this AGI or similar is ridiculous, kinda shows how much people are just mezmerized and lost touch with reality.
I must admit though, working with LLMs has been a magical experience indeed.
The biggest winner is freedom tech that has accelerated a lot of development that would have taken 10X the time.
Another benefit is that open protocols and lockin-free software is becoming the standard. Hardware will follow.

Patches have always been pretty broken, they should be dropped from the spec.
I have merged and pushed to grasp successfully with BudaBit quite some PRs already but what I do now mostly is just throwing an nevent at my agent that knows nak, and does the rest, with code review and conflict resolution.

Tech is more efficiency which results in more power.

Takes time but worth it imo.
Nostr and freedom tech in general is attempting to guide tech more towards human flourishing. If we have a chance to do that we might as well try.
No guarantees but sitting on the sidelines doing nothing is death.
Realistic Optimism is hard. Scepticism is healthy in a small dose but in today's world I must counteract the doomsday folks so I don't go insane.
The future is fundamentally unknowable. Pessimism is letting the fiat mindset win. Today we need to strengthen hope, not sow doubt

One of the best ways to proliferate nostr and bitcoin today is how any kind of infrastructure service can be repackaged to just work with #wot and bitcoin based micropayments instead of unsustainable fiat and rate limiting strategies.
I don't think platforms complain because they have a hard time to scale services. They have bad incentives because they want to offer services the wrong way: Unsustainably cheap, to then monopolize or upsell sth on the backend. In the age of agents this model doesn't work so they suffer.
I think only freedom tech solves this problem at the root

The "Uncle Jim" model looks like a pretty dumb idea looking back.
I never got to it, I was always uncomfortable with this model. Perhaps it's for a very narrow group of people.
I'm not one if them.
So I just created a website that is pure PoW to complete and directed everyone interested towards that. A good decision looking back.
I start it along the lines of "self custody is hard whatever anyone told you. It requires enduring effort."
The "AnYOne Can wriTE dOWn 12 wORds" crew should be ashamed.
The "here's my 15 steps tutorial" people should be ashamed.
And we need to rethink all of this really hard.

Relay hints are key first because they are like signposts (pun intended) that show you a trusted direction where to go from there.
Trusted if it comes from a key you trust.
Hardcoding relays in apps is relay first approach. If I must know what relay to query before anything else, it is not optimal.
We want to connect with people firstly, machines should be secondary.

Relay hints come from keys, they are signposts (pun intended) where something is. That is a key-first approach, a hint you can trust if you trust the key.
Nostr is in part a collective map of the internet. You found an event anywhere even from outside nostr, and from that entrypoint you can go further with relay hints that can be extracted in multiple ways from an event: mentions of people or other events mostly, in multiple forms.
What I am not particularly fond of is relay-first discovery but I understand it could also be beneficial like when I say "I'm running xyz relay check it out it has interesting content".
But this is better served with an event link like an nevent naddr nprofile or such. That is key first.
The reason is, relays go down, people rotate their stuff, quotas are filled so events get evicted etc. Keys don't usually rotate or much more rarely. People over infrastructure. We want to interact with people and so machines must be secondary.

I love relays. But I love keys more.
If the app is about discovering relays first and keys/accounts second, I don't like that.
Bootstrapping is okay of course but we need to fan out based on keys.
#BudaBit is hardcoding a default ncommunity which is a pubkey for a community with relay hints where its definition event is. This is a default entrypoint. There are indexer relays as well but they are not strictly needed.
Even the default ncommunity can be avoided if you know another community you can just search it.
Even outbox model (nip65) is optional with the community-first model because everything is published to your communities as well.
I like this model it simplifies much of the complexity of nostr.

Users choose their preferences based on their community memberships. Communities can protect services based on membership whitelists but BudaBit will only offer options where user is a member at least.
Communities will eventually charge for services or introduce some business model to stay sustainable.
They have incentives to provide good quality.
They might advertise services they themselves are proxying to the user from a reliable provider.
Many possible solutions. The overarching theme is that platforms are broken down into communities and services: An open market driven by organic trust and authentic connections.
Everyone wins.

The article goes on and on about how agents make open source worse. I don't think this is the case.
I think they make it much better for those who have the right perspective.
That is, the free market capitalist view of Nostr, not the socialist view of "free of charge".
The fundamental error they make is complaining about people writing more software and taking advantage of their "free" resources rather than embracing the new paradigm and the creative flourishing that AI means, and riding the wave.
Nothing prevents them from charging for their services in a smart per usage way. They have a good momentum now that GitHub has suffered so much reputation losses. They could be smart and charge fees while letting some people to apply for free quotas. The business opportunities are endless. They could become sustainable without begging for donations and be on top of the trend.
No. Let's not make money. Instead burn our resources on hunting down software projects that use LLM. This is pure socialism.
Seems like we need Nostr more than ever. The spirit of nostr is "make everything an open market where the best providers win". This is only achievable by embracing the new radically turbulent paradigm, and use bitcoin and web of trust to install much needed limitations.
This is the freedom market rather than "free" masquerading as oppressive. Nothing comes closer to achieving the freedom market driven internet than Nostr.
Projects like #BudaBit and #GitWorkshop embody this in my opinion.

Please do. The reason BudaBit works with any relay is that moderation is enforced client side.
The missing piece is optional enforcement on the relay side which would come with the tradeoff of tying the group to a relay-specific implementation.
Basic rate limits can be applied without moderation enforcement though. Some group leaders might want this tradeoff but I don't think it's a prio.
I thought about badges used for moderation but found that a group might need them for simple engagement drivers and overloading them with moderation semantics seemed too much.
Went for simple lists therefore, scoped to arbitrary content scopes. Also if forms are used in BudaBit to grant access (you can build any form you require for applicants to fill out), a like or dislike reaction records an immutable evidence trail of why that guy was admitted.
Everything is documented your agent should sum it up easily.

It's heavily designed around the relay.
I needed sth that makes migration as easy as possible, and works with any relay by default.
Moderation is all or nothing, there's no content-scoping.
NIP42 auth introduces all kinds of hard-to-debug complexity.
Protected tags don't work in reality.
Introduces a bunch of extra kinds for little gain.
See Flotilla and browse some groups there. You will find a lot of inconsistencies what groups look like because implementations are fragmented and browsing relays is confusing.
It's a mishmash of ideas piled up into a mess to satisfy too many people's ideas.

If you use nostr your agents can use relays with a simple nak skill. No need for fancy web ui.
For nip34 git stuff and a Discord-like moderated experience I am already satisfied with my own client, BudaBit.

It's not nip29 because I've been there and found a better spec by @nprofile…4s8y that works with any relay out of the box and has content-scoped discovery and moderation along with other improvements, like global uniqueness of groups.

Keep in mind that insurers will dictate your setup to a degree. They won't just insure any scheme you figure out for yourself, or receive much worse terms.

Do you think Spark and Ark require comparable fees to exit unilaterally? Have you seen a similar study for Ark?
This data liveness requirement is painful but I think comparable to the pain of expiring VTXOs in Ark. There you already always have the state to publish for the unilateral exit but you (wallet or watchtower) must monitor the expiry deadlines.
Of course the other thing is that ark operators are less trusted since they cannot conspire to steal funds.
However I still love Spark because at the end of the day operators don't have enormous liquidity requirements and this will make a big difference in adoption.
Also in Ark has that constant periodical refresh from user wallets, that doesn't look good to me. I don't necessarily open my wallets every month and this is going to be a problem when a lot of users realize this (or have to pay extra for a refresher service).
All in all love the innovation of the L2 space

Anyone implementing the same set of rules ie the subset of the nostr protocol most agree on will see the same events and the rules can be enforced server side optionally as well.
What I struggle to understand:
1. If you have your own self hosted relays and git servers where you can enforce rules to the extent you want how is that different moderation from Forgejo
2. If I fork and mirror your forgejo instance and maintain a bridge, then develop a client that views both sources, how is that different from what you describe as the issue with nostr?
Forgejo is open source so anyone can build this easily today. You're not bothered by that?
Nostr gives you signatures from sovereign IDs and standard data modeling, so it's more neutral.
Everything else I see comes down product specifics.

BudaBit.club has fine-grained client side enforced moderation features.
However, I understand currently you guys want a tried and tested grug brain solution.
Would love any feedback though! If you get the time, it's just a few minutes to create a test group.
Nostr is easy to hack on so custom solutions can be built relatively simply. You wouldn't be married to forgejo as a platform and make people use dozens of accounts to talk about bitcoin and do basic collaboration.
I know IRC and old forums have their vintage charms but we can have open solutions with good ux today using nostr. Even moderation becomes easier since nostr keys can be used in multiple places so you have more context to work with. AI issues also become much more tenable this way.
Anyway wish you guys success with the migration process!

- Getting the right phone is not trivial. Product descriptions suck mostly and it is quite important in this case
- I got through installation fairly easily being a dev but there are many people who would not. Jargon heavy explanations and lots of custom steps depending on the platform of the machine it's installed from. Some trusted distributor should sell pre-installed devices if not yet the case.
- Google pay and wallet does not work. I know why that is, fiat is painful
- For some reason google account login does not trigger for me
- Contacts had to be manually exported and imported
- Signal can be a hassle to migrate from manual backup. Generally less user friendly migration and linking to other devices compared to captured instant messaging apps
- Many settings are not clear what they do and I don't think most people need 'hardened memory allocator' or such settings. They should be behind an advanced mode
- Also "xyz app used play integrity api" doesn't mean anything to most users, I would expose that differently
- Great variability in experience depending on how private and secure someone wants to be. For me iVPN blocked all network connections when VPN was off. I switched off because gmaps would not load directions while on VPN. The number of such hard to troubleshoot issues will grow as we march towards apps and services heavily relying on captured infra
Storage scopes are a good idea but I find it hard to fine tune all apps and then debug yet another set of issues due to apps nowadays asking for too many perms. Sad reality.
- Silent link and esims also hard to deal with but most people won't go there I guess

Yes, BudaBit.club is a static website that is both a nostr and a git client.
Uses git fetching and cloning with cors proxy (if required) and in-browser file system for creating commits and such.
Nostr has the signed metadata where git remotes are for a given repo, PR, code snippet etc. The rest is just git.
BudaBit additionally has the community layer above all that. Curating repos and code makes it easier to trust in a distributed system like nostr where anyone can say anything.

I am convinced that in order to hedge the dependence on data centers we need specialized communities incentivized to run infra for their members.
For git servers, nostr relays and blossom media I see this sufficiently solved now that I built BudaBit.org.
There exists a fallback path to individual infra of course but the right order is not service provider -> individual, but community infra -> individuals, with community leaders using cloud providers and well maintained self hosted fallbacks.
Communities can form a resilient network that mostly makes platforms and cloud providers redundant commodities, especially with nostr discovery.

"Social media" was invented eons ago.
Panem et circenses, bread and circus of the Roman era. Its purpose has always been to distract the masses from important topics possibly questioning the authority of the time.
This way they could effectively control the population with a small circle of rulers. It relies on the fact that people act differently in masses, they blend into the collective consciousness because it feels like we're part of the group and part of something important.
It's actually a powerful way to co-opt real communities into a mass of sheep with convenience and entertainment. In today's mass societies this is even further enhanced with technology.
As we fell for traps of the state co-opting all important aspects of society, social media is just another arm of the state to keep us controlled. "Decentralization of social media" is an oxymoron. It will never happen. People love to go to the circus everyone else does, they don't want to ne left out of the gossiping.
PSA: Your identity doesn't matter in social media, only the narrative of the mass collective matters. In short, you don't matter. Period.
If we ever going to challenge the state and do real grassroots adoption of nostr, it's going to be in strong communities forming a network.
Thinking that cryptography applied to social media will somehow decentralize it is like believing that if we create a bunch of empty stadiums and keep the gates of circus maximus open then people will somehow listen to it and spread out. You have to be delusional to think this is ever going to happen.
People in the empty arenas are just sobering up to this fact, that is alright. I have no objections to entertainment, not even convenience on its own.
I just hope some of us learned a lesson and can move on to doing real cypherpunk grassroot stuff instead of this farce.

How easy is it to plug in custom logic for access policies? Does this relay support such a thing?
In BudaBit I have kind-scoped write policies and a custom moderation engine.
It's enforced client-side but would want to mirror that server side optionally. Almost like nip72 just a bit more sophisticated.

Codex has it too, opencode doesn't. It's fundamentally a persisted session goal but I found it does too many things auto-pilot so I just designed a similar but more explicit prompt template that I use with a slash command in opencode.
With token budget becoming more of a concern I want to have more control over automatic execution and less implicit opaque prompting like /goal

I'm on GrapheneOS but reality is there will be an increasing number of apps that will be unmaintained like you said, and others you would still need like payments and banking apps that implement the play services API and won't work on graphene for long.
Tap to pay is sth many don't want to just let go it's too convenient for them.
And I estimate more and more websites will just stop working in Chromium based browsers like Vanadium.
The two worlds are splitting at an accelerated rate now.

Creating communities with content-level moderation and curation options is really hard.
But I do think it is worth the effort because your role in the group as a member or moderator actually matters and comes with responsibilities. Mirrors real life so much better!

By all means check it out! You can click around the BudaBit community to explore.
It is a community client with deep nostr-git integration especially for communities around open source development.
It's now far gone from Flotilla, we dropped NIP29 in favor of #communikeys therefore we a have different moderation system, enforced client side so having a special relay enforcing moderation is optional.
Additionally, community curation is first class in BudaBit so discovery of repos, snippets etc. are done primarily via your memberships.

A platform is highly stable but very much trusted to one entity. Freedom tech is an attempt to introduce multiple user-facing entities to solve the same user need:
A marketplace app can offer remote signing, relay choices, ecash mints, Lightning services and blossom servers for media - none of those he is responsible for. This reduces stability but offers optionality - more freedom.
The key is designing a system that is flexible but stable enough. The missing piece in Nostr to become usable freedom tech is communities.
They are pillars of stabilization without capturing the user in a platform that packages everything into one product.
Communities are not faceless companies and provide a much stronger model for nostr to not be a completely chaotic mess neither a platform.
Look at the client app you are using right now:
Try to count how many pieces it contains that you use directly. You can ask your agent if the source code is available.
And then count how many people you actually exchanged words or messages with, that are responsible for those pieces.
The number of user-facing entites a solution contains has a practical minimum and maximum.
I cannot call Freedom tech where this entity number is one. That is a platform. But usable software has an upper limit as well and this is something we still have to explore.
Software following protocols like Nostr can increase this number and still be usable. They are "APIs over APIs". But realistically we can hardly agree globally about almost anything and the NIPs repo is the proof of that.
A community bundles the choices of the leader - someone who truly cares and has taste. They reduce the burden of choice in freedom tech. This models nature best and I can hardly imagine "sovereign identities" without any community association at this point. Not even for communities. They can form relationships with others as well, and they should.

Cryptography doesn't eliminate the need for trust. It merely lowers the cost of verification.
It's a huge difference.
Some people think they can somehow completely eliminate the need for trust once their new cryptographic scheme will prove sound or their new system be implemented.
It's a red herring. If you take for granted that there are no perfect solutions just tradeoffs, you will design it right because you know you must distribute trust in the system *somewhere*.
In other words: verification has a cost, and in real life you always have oracles asserting things you cannot fully verify. We live in a fundamentally uncertain world.
What we can do is accept some fundamental limitations and get the most out of the rest.

Tweaks:
- I use profile lists plus reactions on approval forms for content section permission accounting, no 'badges' tag. I use badges for driving engagement but not perms
- I layer explicit kind 1984 reporting as event or person-bans (from admin or moderators)
Otherwise plumbing is there for targeting but ux needs some thought still.
Especially with repos I find it easier to just target directly with the h-tag for now (not yet implemented) but those are replaceable so this can be pivoted later on

The problem with social media of any kind is that we by default become politicians in a lose-all game of popularity, spiraling into a race to the bottom.
Nostr can change that but not by trying to fit the protocol to social media. It's the right primitives used in the wrong way and it is destined to fail.
What we need is strong communities forming resilient networks, with easy forking/exit guarantees.
As for specs NIP29 and 72 were close but not quite there. I am betting hard on #communikeys from now on designed by @nprofile…4s8y , slightly tweaked and extended to my taste. The most important primitives are in place, now testing moderation features and adjusting #BudaBit to this spec.

Package managers and platforms getting rekt over and over again.
The "Trusted third parties are security holes" mantra playing out.
But what can we do? Ditching these big platforms and service providers would leave a big hole for the ecosystem. The classic issue of getting addicted to something and suddenly realizing that cold turkey is really painful.
This is true on so many levels, not just software engineering. Living in big cities, sending our children to state-licensed schools, buying food in supermarkets.
Platforms. Faceless services. Monolith companies. Too many layers of abstraction. Too far removed. Of course we will have serious trust issues and backlashes from this system but we can't make a decent alternative based solely on the "Sovereign Individual". It's a myth.
In real life only concerted effort makes substantial changes in the way we do things. Satoshi had like a thousand serious bugs in Bitcoin when he released it. It was a genius design. But it needed years of polish from hundreds of people in the community to make this usable today. And still does.
The missing layer has always been the community. Those dozens or at most hundreds of ride or dies.
These Communities can form a network that produces proper liquid markets and a culture without the central points of failure and the chaotic mess of what it means to do this all by yourself.
Sovereign Individuals don't exist.
Tyranny is terrible but it's the default.
Community networks is the antidote.
It's the model of #BudaBit

I like nutzaps because:
1. Better verification assuming the mint is widely trusted - > reputation builds up
2. Still some degree of plausible deniability: You could say ecash doesn't equal real money, it's an IOU (not a lawyer)
3. No peel-chain type of privacy leak like with Bitcoin
4. More stable from a developer standpoint because there is no third party involved in the publishing of the zap receipt like with LN zaps
5. Funny name
LN zaps:
- Less verifiable probably due to random LN nodes posting the zap receipt
- Worse stability of receipt structure : it is third party publishing with whatever tags they want. You can just propose the event as a client app
- Better deniability due to the above
Onchain:
- Very strong verifiability
- Privacy ramifications most users can't calculate beforehand
- Future fees and waiting times if bitcoin succeeds
Most use a custodian LN wallet (99.9%) anyway and there's really no way to abstract away the privacy consequences of onchain so ecash is my winner.

The new GitHub will not be another platform.
It will be a paradigm shift: The Community Network model.
Platforms have easy onboarding but are walled gardens destined to rot.
The current model of Nostr apps is Chaos As a Service, or a fallback to platform behavior with global services and hardcoded relays.
It's the right ingredients but not the right model. We can do better:
The missing layer is communities. Communities on nostr are neither tyranny nor chaos. If done well they are they cornerstones of a new way to exist on the internet.
They can provide essential infrastructure and they are the trusted entrypoint to nostr. Not a faceless app, and not a server. Leaders caring for their groups.
The network of these provides a distributed yet consistent system overall.
Not giant metropolitan cities and not weak scattered villages. City states.

The exodus from GitHub has begun.
People are complaining: "Again, a platform that we used to build our reputation and discover new stuff and make high-stakes decisions has rugpulled us..."
But the people are looking for the next GitHub not realizing what it truly was:
- Hosting
- Team Collaboration
- Community - broader exploration and interactions beyond the team
The next "GitHub" should be separate services / apps / projects and sharing identities and important metadata formats.
Nostr has the most clean-cut separation and the best design long-term I believe.
But it makes all of these aspects their own marketplaces (and even more like CI) and those take a lot of time and effort to bootstrap.
Will #gitvianostr succeed?
I am not sure but in times like this we have a chance to take a step forward.

People are whining about centralized enshittified platforms like citizens of a democracy about politicians.
Especially GitHub lately. Solution? According to whining users of subsidized CI and hosting, the people are at fault: Replacing the scapegoats and getting better leaders. Perhaps migrate to another platform if this doesn't work.
Cypherpunks write code and design protocols.
They realize that the given word is not enough because relying fully on it incentivizes empty promises. This spirals into a chaotic world without any trust whatsoever.
We build software that requires low trust, so people can trust each other and the system again: A system not merely based on people but cryptography.
Bitcoin is the flagship product of the cypherpunks. Nostr-based markets and communities make coordination of prices and people unstoppable. It's the natural next step for freedom to flourish.

Platforms have been enjoying a lot of success selling convenience for lock-in.
This era is coming to an end with AI. Projects don't want lock-in in a world where custom solutions can be built in days.
All they need is infrastructure. Bespoke compute and storage. So the ultimate platforms to get rid of are the Amazons and Microsofts of the world.
We need to make a competitive free market for infra and Nostr can solve this problem really well. Without permissionless pubkey-addressed discovery AI is useless slop at best, a threat to humanity at worst.

Good for a temporary migration bridge but not enough long-term.
We want to re-identify the internet as deeply as possible, so the article example would incentivise everyone to still write long-form content without nostr references in the content.
Another problem is that content can be mutated behind the URL so a Wikipedia article that you loved can (and will) become subject to psyop propaganda and the things you said about don't apply anymore.
I don't want that risk at all, if we want to do this we need to make things nostr native and tamper resistant.
URLs are a threat to this. Perhaps nsites are better. Even with books and other stuff we should still put them on blossom not just use an ISBN.

What you talk about is much more relevant in e.g. software release signing.
Benefit of Nostr shines imo where you start mentioning people and events in the Nostr way not twitter way.
That is not mere tamper-resistance but growing this ecosystem rather than deepening the platform network effect twitter has.

Nostr is much more resilient than Bitcoin.
Many people find this hard to believe but it's really simple to reason about:
Bitcoin must come to a global consensus on the state of its ledger. Simply put, money must be universal.
Nostr does not have this requirement of a consolidated 'global'. Stuff can be distributed anywhere and people still have their own microcosm of Nostr, even when others don't know about you at all.

Nip17 only works if ecash stamps proliferate. Otherwise it is trivial to spam relays into oblivion with giftwraps.
As I said before: you pay (ecash, or by self hosting) or trust (eg web of trust relay, uncle jim, group relay).
No other way I see around this.
Also it is worth putting DMs in context:
- Is it for a p2p marketplace?
- A dissident / freedom-fighter group?
- A developer community?
- A group for random cat-memes?
- One-to-one, few-to-few or many-to-many?
Don't think black and white, and don't think that one spec rules all. It almost never is the case.

AI doom is now more justified but not because it is AGI.
I don't expect the LLM architecture to solely bring about AGI but it will contribute to it.
AI is dangerously useful for good and bad intentioned people as well. Depends on the perspective:
- Dangerous for the state because it can be used to escape the control of the system
- Dangerous for freedom-loving people because it can be used for mass surveillance, censorship, and engineering panics and psy-ops on a large scale
Personal responsibility is key (pun intended) now more than ever.

Main point is, this doesn't work as a proper git remote.
The point of git is effective state sync of commits and branches i.e. a DAG of code collaboration objects.
If you want a signed archive of a repo you could use this but this is not good for code collab purposes.

Somehow we see this coming back to bite us again and again. Theft and coercion fueled by envy, camouflaged by the "protection" of "underprivileged".
The central planners will try to crack down once more, with terrible consequences. The signs are there.
Working on unstoppable speech, communities, and markets for me is not optional. If I want a future for myself and my family I must carry on and do my best to ship the tools for freedom.
