My household went to school after shoveling out our driveway that day. I don’t remember the ‘89 cold snap closure being optional. It might have been, but we didn’t go. It was an ice-fog closure for a couple of days at the tail end of an extended -40 streak. Today’s common theme: we need to invest in ourselves for the future. Whether it is chronically flat funded education, or under funded infrastructure maintenance, or the inability of the state to recruit and retain public safety officers due to the lack of a pension, our disinvestment is impacting people’s everyday lives. Government should not do all of the things - but for the things we ask it to do, we should fund it to do the job well.
