I wrote a new blog post! ✍️
Lighten your load: The power of treating social media posts as ephemeral
A social media post's window of relevance is extremely short. But being hoarders by nature, we have a hard time letting go of our post history — much to the delight of AI scrapers and enshittificators. Here are a few thoughts on the benefits of traveling light.

So uh, the time where I see myself forced to switch to Linux might be nigh. :thisisfine:
Does anyone have experience running the following on Linux?
– Affinity Photo 2/Designer 2/Publisher 2
– Ableton Live Suite 10
– The pressure-sensitivity of my stylus and whichever drivers are needed for that
Model: MSI Summit E16 Flip Evo A13MT-267 with an MSI Pen

Hey graphic designers of the Fediverse, I'm looking for a PDF viewer that lets me view color separations for print PDFs on Windows (to double-check my spot colors). 📄🔍
Preferably one-time purchase or FOSS (happy to donate), no subscription models.
Do you have a favorite that you would recommend?

Wow!

Since the first one was drowned out by general year-end shenanigans, here's another shameless self-promotion for my recently released rock/electronic/gothic solo project Beyond the Haze! 🎶
"Follow the Moth" (songs I wrote 2005–2013): An album about the struggle to find your place in the world.

I've started to separate news and social media and I can highly recommend it.
:mastodon: I come here to vibe with my online buddies. The only doom I want to see here is doom metal, so my politics filters have 72 entries and counting.
📰 To stay informed, I've installed an RSS reader and subscribed to a selection of news sources. I can actively check the news whenever I'm in the right headspace.
You are NOT obligated to endure a 24/7 onslaught of doom in your safe haven. Reclaim that space. Filter and unfollow liberally. Stay informed if you can, but do so at your own pace. You can't win a fight if you have nowhere to wind down and regather your strength.

Long shot, but: Is anyone looking to sell a Scottish Smallpipe or Hümmelchen?
Preferably:
– 2 or 3 drones (bass, tenor)
– C or D
– mouth-blown
I'm considering fulfilling a childhood dream of mine. 🎶
Apparently my options are either dubious second-hand listings ("found this one in the basement, it's got holes lol") or having one custom-built (💸💸💸). Before I go for the latter, I figured I'd ask around first!

If you're an admin or mod running Mastodon 4.3.0 and keep receiving recurring spam reports from local users for servers you already limited, it may be due to the new "Filtered notifications" feature displaying notifications from limited servers to your users by default.
I believe letting users consciously opt into seeing moderated notifications instead of defaulting to opt-out would be more in line with user expectations and help reduce the newly arisen extra burden on moderation teams.
If your experience is similar, I'd appreciate you sharing your thoughts in this GitHub ticket:

Hi, I'm Sciasm (she/they)! I'm a senior UI designer by day and a hobby artist and musician at night.
I grew up on MySpace and LiveJournal where I was adopted and raised by furries. I love to draw silly creatures and listen to industrial music, doom metal and everything that slaps. I enjoy open world games, indie horror and survival games and love to play pen & paper RPGs.
Nice to meet y'all! Don't be shy to say hi! 👋
