Last Notes npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe Enjoying a beautiful evening with @npub1rfx…d8lu at Mink Lake in the Three Sisters Wilderness. https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/116/547/446/523/221/376/original/401d51ec5fa8d3ab.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe Enjoying the view of Mount Washington from the summit of Black Butte again. I wasn’t expecting another clear weekend but I used it as an excuse to take my older vehicle, a 2012 Honda Pilot, on a long drive to exercise the engine. We haven’t been driving it much over the last few months. Tomorrow morning, I hope to explore a new area around here. It’s very cold this weekend by Oregon standards, currently 22F/-6C in the sun at 10 AM. It snowed on the way down from Santiam Pass last night. https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/951/379/642/487/899/original/1dbf34f4bf5c3404.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe #Sunrise photo of The Three Sisters along the summit approach to Black Butte. A lot more people here waiting for it to open. Doubt I will buy much here but I wanted to take a look. The Columbia store is pretty great. My third time in the last couple months. I have another pass that expires 2/15 if anyone in the area wants to go on a rainy weekend morning. (I’ll be in the mountains if the weather is nice) https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/832/428/297/617/075/original/698593fc002c3ddc.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe I completed the first year of my adult life that I’ve been completely sober, and I couldn’t be happier. And tomorrow marks 10 years since I stopped drinking. I guess I’ve finally grown up. A year ago I gave up the green when I needed to look for a new job. It’s legal in Oregon but there’s always a chance of a drug test even though that hasn’t happened to me in 25 years. I expected to start again but never felt like I wanted to. If you feel like you can’t be happy sober, know it’s possible. npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe This #FootpathFriday photo showed up on my lock screen earlier today. Made me remember a great time I had in the Glacier Peak Wilderness in September 2023. This photo is from Miners Ridge I believe. Want to visit this wildness again next summer for sure. https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/748/543/362/100/217/original/d32b8fd1b57888c5.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe #SilentSunday https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/718/509/759/274/899/original/575e6de80c065f73.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe Made it back to my vehicle after a 21 mile cherry bomb loop. This is Red Butte at the end of Mowich Lake. A rough line in the thin ice looks like it is reflecting the mountain. No snow around but there was tons of frost and ice on the trail. https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/714/560/916/749/991/original/453b22af7fa2005f.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe Mount Jefferson looks stunning from Red Butte. I’m deep in the Jefferson Wilderness with no one around for miles. My feet are a bit wet from precarious creek crossings and I sprained my ankle a bit (this happens often) but I’m having a wonderful time. Hope you all are have an excellent weekend too! https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/713/184/821/181/535/original/31022908a1e2f34c.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe I don’t bring silverware backpacking or camping but your wooden one looks awesome! I have a titanium one somewhere that I’ve never used. npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe I did really enjoy the desert but I felt a strong urge to get back into the mountains. I thought about hiking Black Butte from the lower trailhead but didn’t want my first time to be in the clouds. Decided to hike Marion Mountain and Marion Lake. It started snowing about 30 minutes into my hike this morning. By the time I made it to the summit, the mountain was completely white. It was so serene to be alone in the forest when it’s snowing. The skies cleared a bit towards the end, which was nice. https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/640/884/270/164/814/original/c9532486edbf1d36.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/640/884/667/091/952/original/089d477f0b798f6d.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/640/885/087/264/608/original/d6e783bad7ea7403.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/640/885/540/077/233/original/042e21c98557da0a.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe Here’s a bonus #Sunrise view of Three Fingered Jack from the top on Maxwell Butte in the Jefferson Wilderness. https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/599/677/097/238/664/original/b601ae925ba6c7c0.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe #SilentSunday https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/599/375/555/295/773/original/cda09ea730018de7.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe Good morning from Paulina Peak in the Newberry National Volcanic Monument! Hiking a loop with a few inches of powder. Not sure if the monument is actually open, Apple refused to route me and Google snuck me in on 10 miles of dirt road. On thing for certain is there is nobody around. Got to use the snow mode on the CRV for the first time. Beautiful day! Off to check out the snow dusted lava below. https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/594/275/405/040/808/original/e40ade9a17f0606a.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe @npub17eq…krwj You might like this video showing a group of indigenous teens kayaking down the Klamath River after four dams were removed. I’m hiking up from Mount Hood Meadows towards Timberline Lodge. Hoping to complete a loop if I can manage a couple water crossings. https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/514/760/375/721/850/original/efaff17715ea3484.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe #SilentSunday https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/481/086/324/636/276/original/848026c2189f7c8f.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe Snuck up to Mount Hood to take advantage of an expected break in the storms tomorrow. Heavy rain currently. I’m going to check out a few snow parks today and maybe head up to Timberline to see some actual snow. Planning to do a popular hike in the morning that I’ve never done before. Excited to be out of the house after a couple weeks of rain. https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/476/686/128/176/812/original/e9a87d7b883d619c.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe I put on spikes about a mile in because of ice on the trail. A lot of people were not using traction but I’m more safely conscious and I have them with me so I might as well use them. npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe It’s only been one week but I’m already missing the mountains so much. Dreaming of climbing and snowshoeing as much as possible this winter as well as maybe learning to ski. Hoping to get more comfortable driving in snow so I don’t feel trapped in the city. Here are a few more photos from climbing South Sister last Saturday. https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/440/430/167/136/685/original/b3407ce91ea38d83.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/440/430/530/580/177/original/ae2a8cb837640752.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/440/430/903/897/498/original/14700c0efb9de757.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/440/431/280/462/200/original/47b97c4716107a56.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe #SilentSunday https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/401/039/005/908/919/original/ac4760ef3cf50b16.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe Completed the Triple Crown of easier northwest volcanos today (Saint Helens, South Sister, Adams). Perfect weather and beautiful views. Could see so many other volcanoes from the summit of South Sister. https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/397/268/176/126/102/original/a76dc05c3b79d55d.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe Looks like an amazing place to hike. Beautiful colors! npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe I normally am not scared at all. I just had an eerie feeling after a strange sound I had heard before dusk. Can’t explain it, just something I had never heard before. I heard all kinds of crazy things last night, including rain that didn’t actually happen. And very strange bubbling in the lake next to my tent. Could have been dreams. npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe I made it safely out of the basin. Spent the day climbing over ridges and peaks. Very fun to be so alone. No traces of human activity whatsoever. Though I must admit I was a little scared last night, which is not normal even when there is no one for miles. Time to find camp closer to the car so I can make an early escape in the morning and hopefully beat the rain. https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/283/274/330/484/885/original/5274f212b4ee725b.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/283/275/159/712/211/original/9de34b005517b0ac.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe I’m currently off trail in the Eagle Cap Wilderness in the Wallowa Mountains. A year ago I saw a goat trail heading down into this basin and thought, “I wonder what’s down there?” Time to find out. Hopefully some water. In less than 30 minutes of leaving a maintained trail I headed off the mountain the wrong way and had to change course back up the mountain. Oops! https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/278/180/669/070/110/original/b2ce53d931fca384.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe I agree. I’m not watching anything there. They had some good shows in the past but not in a while. npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe Hulu (Disney) seems to be bleeding subscribers. They want me to stay for $3 per month. https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/268/031/737/793/630/original/20b57556687df89f.png npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe I completed my goal of filling in some missing gaps on the PCT this season. The completed section is 327 miles, from Middle Sister in Central Oregon to White Pass near Packwood, Washington. Despite my small section from Santiam Pass to South Cinder Peak last weekend being mostly burnt, I had an amazing time! Incredible views of Three Fingered Jack and Black Butte. Plus my first time seeing mountain goats in the Oregon Cascades. I was even able to get out Sunday morning before the rain started. https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/259/407/773/891/756/original/0254b8e9c73bcd88.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/259/408/167/710/194/original/5d62b55c14fda42f.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/259/408/567/717/234/original/0f0f5207852e2f6c.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/259/408/955/954/016/original/57ab40c13a1b51e4.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe Beautiful day in the mountains so far. https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/237/304/208/379/145/original/dd2c756e3dffaa92.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe After a couple uncomfortable nights trying to sleep in the back of my CRV I decided to buy a sleeping platform. It’s called a Hele Box from Hele Outdoors. Haven’t used it yet but seems well made and should work good. Can be taken apart and put together easily. Also got a spare tire from Modern Spare since the hybrid battery takes up that space. Not driving deep into the mountains without a real spare tire. So far loving the CRV, and still figuring out all the modern features. https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/222/724/526/177/399/original/afca787b23c6f96d.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe I woke up yesterday morning in the mountains to almost freezing temps and it was 25F in the eastern Oregon desert. Summer seems to be over. npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe #SilentSunday https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/204/580/725/844/084/original/f52c1b72dfd33e22.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe I’m currently on top of Devil’s Peak in the Sky Lakes Wilderness in southern Oregon. Mainly because of less rain tomorrow, but enjoying it so far. Feels far different than up north, different trees and terrain. Only learned about this wilderness a few weeks ago. Heading down now to check out another Seven Lakes Basin. https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/198/206/125/631/574/original/b9d76533bcc8a04a.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/198/213/337/540/981/original/4eea2c567b4576dd.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe #SilentSunday https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/164/527/976/292/982/original/a131b4358bc3e1aa.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe Explored the southern half of the Goat Rocks Wilderness, which is probably the crown jewel of the Pacific Crest Trail in the northwest. The first part of my section from Potato Hill to Knife’s Edge was mostly forest but when it climbs into the alpine, it was breathtaking. The wilderness was full of thru hikers, day hikers, and weekend warriors. And I understand why, I’m going to have to spend more time exploring all the other trails someday. https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/140/854/893/055/019/original/d889c3e25b58d5e6.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/140/855/287/357/031/original/2aab18355b01ad2c.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/140/855/681/800/704/original/32f0f2d88dedcd4e.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/140/856/093/081/769/original/634a74e57bd77b7e.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe While hiking on the Wonderland Trail in Rainier National Park, my thoughts were filled with amazement about how easy the hiking was. Of course this was only because I had hiked the Alpine Lakes High Route the weekend prior. The cool temperatures helped as well but the trail is just so beautifully maintained while rugged at the same time. I was expecting clouds after a rare August atmospheric river rolled through but secretly hoped for some sun. Perfect excuse to visit the area again next year. https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/067/160/101/114/175/original/021a0365f56bd681.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/067/160/483/950/625/original/dc1dd52fb60ef21e.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/067/160/873/326/638/original/7bfdc3bcc44edf9c.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/067/161/281/302/465/original/cd299126cd305783.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe I’ve been in Rainier National Park since Friday and I haven’t seen the mountain once. Still a beautiful and magical place. https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/115/050/000/712/440/881/original/7dd15720ccf2fa2f.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe One of my goals this summer is to fill in a few missing gaps on the Pacific Crest Trail. I hiked a six mile section north of Olallie Lake in Oregon and continued to Jefferson Park for a quick overnight at Russell Lake. Such a beautiful place on the north side of Mount Jefferson. I’m still getting permits when required but there appears to be no one checking them anymore. Saw several PCT northbound hikers in this section. I even enjoyed the burn areas, still pockets of trees and meadows. https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/114/982/196/964/773/725/original/30aeb62a4dcf6e20.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/114/982/197/355/383/583/original/a4183eb07e8061ea.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/114/982/197/805/922/036/original/b95bf4d7dd8342dd.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/114/982/198/248/847/678/original/1e991f1f6a21fd67.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe #Sunrise https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/114/964/903/069/353/057/original/610e50a89dde2f18.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe #SilentSunday https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/114/964/677/087/152/916/original/0aafe8081ea618ac.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe That’s what I was thinking too. npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe Enjoy Tim! Can’t wait to see photos and hear about the adventures. npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe Here are some more photos from Olympic National Park. I was inspired last night to book a permit to hike a section of the Wonderland Trail next month, maybe getting onto a Rainier glacier as well. Next couple of weeks I will be spending time with my family, with most like some hiking mixed in. Then will be back in the high country. https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/114/835/076/368/705/116/original/ecb0b3d971bd3b49.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/114/835/076/961/532/205/original/9d927b51a465a98e.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/114/835/077/360/395/692/original/aebd7d69683ffa5a.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/114/835/077/757/616/458/original/b97e531ffa89f324.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe Never seen echinops before. Stunning! npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe On Saturday, I hiked the Seven Lakes Basin loop in Olympic National Park. Still a lot of snow in the main basin but the loop only had a few sections with sketchy snow crossings. I enjoyed the beautiful alpine lakes, lush green rainforest, and rushing falls. Probably the perfect place to spend a long weekend. Next time I would love to do the loop slowly over a few days and really enjoy it. https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/114/818/068/168/474/889/original/402ecbdb02faa9d5.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/114/818/068/558/661/741/original/c463034384cd3432.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/114/818/068/924/991/208/original/a9822dfdc842335b.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/114/818/069/344/717/547/original/3b72f07436933dfa.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe I was excited to score permits for Olympic National Park for the holiday weekend. The ranger accurately described the difficulty and steepness of the trail leading up to Hoh Lake, but didn’t quite mention that the trail has been effectively abandoned. But my fault for looking on the map at a trail that heads straight up to the High Divide area and thinking that sounded fun. Camping alone at the lake was majestic. A small black bear chased a small deer out of the forest at one point, it got away! https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/114/812/459/783/276/337/original/fd4f625104cfa63e.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/114/812/460/167/357/199/original/191806769a526ea3.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/114/812/460/548/125/086/original/1f1d865666f85c40.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/114/812/460/967/888/954/original/279c680ea05be8e6.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe I had a great adventure this weekend, despite spending most of my time hiking in lava fields and burn zones. Filled in around 12 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail between Mount Washington and Lava Camp Lake. Stayed the first night at North Mattheiu Lake, which was very peaceful. https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/114/778/342/484/315/055/original/62a292af834455c1.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/114/778/342/900/181/946/original/29c26c260c9698f0.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/114/778/343/298/379/567/original/620efacc6e36fc87.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/114/778/343/855/916/957/original/846e80ac01e54e1c.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe I climbed the Belknap Crater for a #MountainMonday sunrise. My goal was to traverse the wilderness from the Douglas Trailhead and camp at Plaza Lake. I wasn’t sure if all of the trails would still exist. They did but I bushwhacked through pollen-covered rhododendron for a couple miles in the middle. Not a single person came down to the lake while I camped there two nights. And no burn zones around. Enjoyed this area quite a bit. https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/114/710/394/207/606/511/original/14135fb0b2766544.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/114/710/395/257/376/852/original/8a522a55be5f916e.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/114/710/399/604/850/699/original/7099cd1e84337086.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/114/710/402/097/880/979/original/91ae0047bdb9b2e4.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe There’s a lot to like about the hike to Old Baldy even though there is no view up top. Beautiful forest and a couple views on the way. No people. Recently maintained trail. The road to the main trailhead is notoriously difficult but there is access from a paved road not far in. I backpacked into the area so not sure about either. I walked down part of the road last year and I think that legend holds up. I would love to camp in this meadow. https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/114/688/576/400/845/038/original/dcbb5adf59795eea.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe Hanging out with Brian and Tyson was incredibly fun. I’m so happy we all made it to the top. I was so done with the melting snow and high temps by the time we made it back down. Amazingly, a scary descent off a steep ridge picked my spirits right back up. I feel so ecstatic about my ice ax, what an incredible tool. https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/114/664/848/990/801/149/original/77eaada22a07b0a8.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/114/664/849/375/230/507/original/8df3e50d7ea0d6f8.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/114/664/849/748/195/900/original/7d8819db94af44c3.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/114/664/850/089/371/374/original/f35c2c2a44af66a2.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe I had an amazing and life-changing day with @npub1dr3…mqw6 and @npub1rfx…d8lu climbing Mount Adams on Sunday. Everything about the trip was an exciting challenge from the treacherous road to the endless ascent and the 2,000 FT almost continuous glissade. I really didn’t think we would make it with the temperatures in the valley below rising close to 100 F but the snow was mostly firm until we reached the summit. https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/114/664/833/734/999/685/original/9ec75039e57de0d9.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/114/664/834/127/094/828/original/4487fa7e17545f1c.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/114/664/834/600/476/779/original/0dbd7a86a438cb1f.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/114/664/834/981/692/692/original/a4ea74a1380307cc.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe Doing a few smaller hikes I haven’t done yet before heading up to Mount Adams. I couldn’t stand without being blown over and I didn’t see anyone climbing past that point so it seemed like the smartest thing to do. Still had a great day. A lot less snow than last month. Explored part of the Loowit Trail, June Lake, and the Sasquatch Trail. I was substantially more alert on the last trail with only bear prints, elk tracks, and me. Hopefully bear prints. https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/114/613/896/764/708/692/original/0bfed4797c916d75.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/114/613/897/237/194/008/original/937115bf14145579.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/114/613/897/975/228/927/original/02ddc52f233399b7.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/114/613/898/714/739/211/original/95e932bed84a8243.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe #SilentSunday https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/114/568/430/806/381/724/original/6a03f6527d49e265.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe I’ve been using a Big Agnes Tiger Wall UL2 since I started backpacking again. Well, I wasn’t scared at all during the section that previously terrified me on several occasions. For those familiar, it’s the section right after the rope. https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/114/484/127/149/345/347/original/ee78381c1209f60b.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/114/484/129/061/816/227/original/4e06ad105b6a7f30.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe It’s been a couple years and I’ve forgotten the terrifying feeling a section of the Elk Mountain Kings Mountain loop trail gives me. Very cool find. npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe On Thursday I hiked Augspurger and Dog Mountains for the first time. I honestly had no idea these were both very steep trails, which I enjoyed immensely. Had a snack while admiring views of Saint Helens and Adams on the backside of Augspurger, where the trail abruptly disappears. Definitely going to defy the sign that says no camping due to Big Foot someday. It was a bit early for peak wildflower season but there were some pretty flowers around. They work but I think they are heavier and bulkier. npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe I appreciate everyone's advice. Here is the updated design for now. https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/114/032/699/138/285/517/original/992bd3e511953f08.png npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe I'm toying with the idea of starting an outdoor blog with ActivityPub integration. Want a logo but I am definitely not a designer and currently don't have a job. Concept is a backpacker hiking towards the mountains. Any ideas for somewhere I could get a very simple logo designed for not much money? May just start without a logo. *Concept logo is for illustrative purposes only* https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/114/032/187/338/253/255/original/3d1339eef41e4fc8.png https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/114/032/236/172/236/695/original/0c4abc0e18db5c12.png npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe I briefly tested this out. Was easily able to download full maps for Oregon and Washington. Seems to have all the same hiking trails as the other apps. Will definitely be testing this more once the rain lets up. https://mastodon.social/@organicmaps/114015973276165814 npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe Posted a new video from my first winter backpacking trip. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=0Yhy66Fi_eo npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe Thanks Mark! Sounds like I should get out this weekend if the active weather subsides. npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe This has been working very well for my GoPro. https://gopro.com/en/us/shop/mounts-accessories/shorty/AFTTM-001.html?srsltid=AfmBOooUV3Bx54GJv3KYy_w-GvMBrb3yhv3qrRY5LM5SMW44RSNHiIdC npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe I learned I need a warmer sleeping bag, which I now have, and there were a few things I brought that were too much weight. Full size tripod and bear can were the main things. The bears should be hibernating anyway. npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe Thank you, Tim! Went well overall. Learned some lessons and I’m sure I will attempt it again. npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe #SilentSunday https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/113/895/306/794/550/057/original/7441dd4987ddbddc.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe One or two nights depending how it goes. 😀 npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe #FootpathFriday Cool footpath behind Horsetail Falls. I’m starting my first ever winter backpacking trip this morning. Temps are going to get down to 26F/-3C. Wish me luck, I’m going to need it. https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/113/884/572/579/154/076/original/d6276a8314a8c7fb.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/113/884/574/526/780/130/original/a6fe14d35eb5871e.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe A bit of color walking past a golf course this morning. https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/113/851/654/644/989/559/original/c6c40ee98a163d10.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe I recently bought a GoPro and made my first YouTube video.
