I just checked: the Moskva line ended in 1960. Based on everything I know about the FEDs, Kievs, etc., I'm pretty sure that it's fair to say quality control was still very high then. Things only seemed to go bad in the mid-70s.
With this particular Moskva, the real problem is neglect. There was so much corrosion inside that it's obviously been kept in a very damp place for decades. Such a shame.

Today was the first trial run of the Moskva 5 after a thorough strip-clean.
The shutter still doesn’t latch consistently and I’m worried there’s a bit too much slop in the rangefinder mechanism, but hopefully these 8 shots will at least tell me if it’s worth putting in more work to get it 100% up to scratch.
It is easily the weirdest and most cantankerous camera I’ve ever used, though. Everything feels awkward and backwards.
