I also used to worry that the planet can't support all of us.
Then I discovered that 40% of the US corn crop is fed, not to people but to cars' gas tanks. Corn ethanol is a gasoline additive.
That's not a wise use of good farmland.
The story is similar with sugarcane in Brazil and in India.

A great deal has been said / written about the "tragedy of the commons" but the real tragedy occurred at Enclosure, when the commons were declared private property, thereby depriving many people from a livelihood and forcing them to enter the workforce in newly minted factories.
