Your best bet is to find a scanner that supports driverless scanning using either Apple's Airscan or Microsoft WS-Scan. There is an open source implementation of these called sane-airscan that works on top of Sane, the scanner library for Linux. The PS2 library is so large it would take you half a lifetime just to play the best stuff. The attached chart is a good start if you don't have a particular genre in mind. I would recommend buying a memory card with free mcboot and a USB flash drive filled with ISOs to play the Japanese stuff since the PS2 is region locked.
