I lost my shit a few times, that’s why I learned how to make apps to stop me from losing my shit.
My entire design philosophy is to build apps that help people not lose their shit.
Basically there’s no way to prevent every client from mangling your lists, but keeping backups is a good defense against that when it happens.
Another app you can check out is Sidecar, which will warn you if you’re about to sign an event that will wipe some of your profile data. It’s only for desktop, not mobile, but is could definitely save you some headaches.

Yeah. What Nostur tries to do is prevent other clients from completely wiping your follows (which is basically an epidemic) by comparing your latest saved follow list on the network with whatever it has stored locally. When it detects a difference, it prompts you to restore them, but it’s easy to accidentally restore a list that you didn’t want to if you made a lot of changes on another client first. There are other reasons why follow lists can get fragmented and become inconsistent across clients. What I did with Mutable is to let you snapshot a set of follows at any given time and back them up, so you can overwrite your list with the version you want. And if you didn’t manage to take a backup, it will just scrape the last one it can find from your relays before it was changed by another app.
Maybe it could be done better with AI, but nobody’s going to spend time on that because the amounts you’d be saving are so low.

Keyword search has basically never worked in any client for all four of the years I’ve been here and I don’t see why it would suddenly start working anytime soon.
I’m adding a feature in the next version that @npub1cn6…wt8a requested where you can tell Sidecar to ignore which account is signed in on the client and just post whichever one you have selected in Sidecar.

Bad relay list were a huge issue in the last app to make it work.
Poached. I got these silicone cups that you put in a shallow pan of steaming water and cook them covered for 6 minutes. Add a little salt and some everything bagel seasoning, and they’re perfect.
Yeah, we were waiting for CI, which now works. So hopefully soon.

Sorry, I don’t follow what you’re saying. I didn’t see image alt tags in any client I tested including yours, but let me know if I missed anything. I do like the feature of tagging a user in an image, and that’s something I haven’t seen any other clients do yet, so good job on that. I’ll probably add that into Sidecar in a future release. As far as implementing accessibility best practices, I’m not doing this to sell a product, I’m interested in it because it’s something quietly improves the experience for everyone, including those who otherwise couldn’t use our products.

Here’s were I disagree with this. Not every disability is a 100% loss of a sense or input. Should someone with low vision be forced to only use a text-to-speech app when simply having a few words to describe an image would make all the difference?
Besides, the descriptions need to be added at the time the image is uploaded so they’re included in the post metadata, and for that you need the alt text input field to be available in the client in the first place.
Each update could be posted using a different long form client to showcase how many different ones there are now.

We’ve looked into it, but there are some major challenges with that. It’s not a very high priority at the moment.
And only the ones with perfect vision in their northern European blue eyes.

Making technology work for blind people is “woke”? What a stupid fucking attitude. Anyone could end up permanently disabled tomorrow. This is why the rest of the world thinks bitcoiners have their heads up their asses. And they’re not wrong.
How many Nostr clients have implemented accessibility features for people with disabilities — such as image alt text for the visually impaired — in the three years since this post? If not, why not? I thought we wanted to #grownostr and onboard the world.
@npub1xxd…kt7a just added it today using NIP 92 media attachments metadata (imeta) tags. It’s live on the web, and rolling out to Android and the upcoming iOS TestFlight over the next few days.
This image has alt text. If you can’t see it in your client, consider submitting a feature request to support it. There’s no excuse for Nostr to be so far behind every other major platform and protocol in this area. We already have the tools to build it.
