It's a rather abstract thing to try to explain to people (and I've only tried once or twice), that "investing" in bonds (or gilts, as you call them across the pond) is a choice with profound moral consequence. Namely, that it is a fundamentally immoral thing to do. People generally just look at me like a nutter.
I'm British. I want the entire UK state shrunk till it can barely function and the Bank of England abolished. Politely, of course.
