Why asym crypto:
- No key on the device - ever.
- You may even not possess the decryption key at all - send the data to you friend to be decrypted. Wrap it in a symmetric cipher so your friend can't look inside.
- Using standard GPG packages you can encrypt stuff not having a decryption key, new GPG packages have Brainpool+Kyber so they are PQ secure.
- Many data types including backups and logs can be encrypted asymmetrically, which prevents key compromise.

curators (on https://grantless.org ) don't really exist at the #catallax protocol level - they're more of a ui/ux feature, supplied by #dlists and #WoT . there's nothing stopping an aspiring curator from using catallax to build out their curation service for a fee.
all these raw materials are available for innovative people ta build markets and economies on top of. this is why the protocol is deliberately unopinionated and the current clients are billed as "reference". i'd like to see others build opinionated systems on top

Relying on people's judgment rather than just systems is the only way to make this work (especially on nostr, which has no smart contracting capabilities — in this case I think that's a feature). I do have one question: do curators and arbiters get paid? Their work is crucial, and both (but especially arbiters) are difficult, skilled labor. I think you would end up with low quality or a dearth of people to fill these roles if they were completely pass through.
