Certainly they were manipulated, but lovers often manipulate each other. Some were undoubtedly certain that they loved Trump, but what it means to love an abstract political figure/entertainer is hard to define. Perhaps our difference is over "governed." To govern is not the same as to oppress or deceive. Bad leadership leads to bad outcomes. Bad leaders often pretend to be good ones.
