U.S. Industrial production gains 0.9% in May, more than expected

U.S. industrial production increased by 0.9% in May, surpassing expectations of 0.3% growth. Manufacturing production also rose by 0.9%, exceeding the expected 0.3% growth. Capacity utilization reached 78.7%, higher than the expected 78.6%. The index for consumer goods rose by 1.3%, with all components showing increases except for home electronics. Business equipment saw a small gain of 0.2%, while defense and space equipment rose by 1.0%. The materials market group posted a gain of 0.8%, with non-energy durables and non-energy nondurables both recording increases of around 1%. In May, the index for durable manufacturing rose by 0.6%, the index for nondurable manufacturing increased by 1.1%, and the index for other manufacturing (publishing and logging) moved up by 0.2%.
