I bought this image hosting software called Chevereto a while back but never really used it.
Since Nostr has no central severs to store my media for me. That requires me to have to depend on other image hosting websites/media relays to host my images and videos.
So now I have a use for the Chevereto software that I rarely used because I rather host my own media and not depend on others. Mostly because I remember years ago when image hosting websites were popular. Many started their own image hosting websites in hopes that they could monetize the websites.
In the long run. 99% of those image hosting websites went bankrupt because it requires a lot of server power, space & expertise to keep that type of site running.
Many tried to monetize their image hosting websites through ads because it was the only way to make money and even so they didn't break even.
Most people are just not willing to pay for image hosting service when there is literally lots of other free websites they can use. These days many internet users also use AdBlockers which cuts into profits of trying to make money from ads.
Will the Nostr paid media relays end up on the same path?
Possibly.. but I learned from the past because none of the image hosting websites I used are still alive today and all the images I uploaded on their websites are gone.
So from now on I'm hosting my own media using my own media hosting software and the software only cost me 48USD.
Since I'm the only one using I don't have to worry about expensive sever costs.
