she was truly great. She had unbelievable vibe in person. Deeply grounded and calm seeming but with a kind of bright fire under that. I never wanted to bug her for an autograph or anything when I saw her but now I really wish I'd gotten her to sign my copy of her co-translation of the Tao Te Ching.
In my opinion as a lifelong SFF reader she is the single most important figure in the maturation of the genre into its modern, more diverse and wiser form.
