People come to understand the manner in which stories (and I suppose other arts) are "real" in different ways but it "clicked" for me through two people I found through Jordan Peterson lectures when I was a young adult; The first is Carl Jung, the controversial psychologist who's usually co-opted by retarded White women, but he has genuine insights into how patterns of action work. The second is Jonathan Pageau, a Christian artist who spent a few years lecturing on Youtube about how symbolism is a universal language, and he used classical mystical interpretations of old legends to make this point of how all stories link together in a single "real" hierarchy that also reflects daily life.
