I remember having similar arguments in 2016, and the polling looked a lot better for the Democrats then.
If the polls are accurate, then if the election were held today, Biden would lose. It's absolutely astonishing that anyone could lose to Trump, the deranged and mendacious screamer, but Biden is making a poor showing.
Wishful thinking is not OK given the magnitude of the danger.
