Regarding citation, I haven't seen so much that people cite general packages (e.g dplyr, purrr, admisc, varhandle), but people typically cite the main package which almost always comes with its own publication.
But yes, you are right, with the current DOI one can collect citations, although I don't know how useful that would be.🤷♂️
Regardless, this is already a step forward and I support it.🤓
