From your explanation so far I don't think the multisig distinction matters. In both cases you'd simply be trading one asset (btc) for another (ecash tokens)
... and by this logic, couldn't I claim that I'm not depositing btc to something like Coinbase for custody, but simply trading btc for Coinbase ledger entries?
