“The Web used to be awesome. Back when it started, it was a revolution like the invention of the printing press. No longer was mass-publishing controlled by a few large, faceless media companies. Anyone could have a web site and everyone could read it. While that’s still technically true, in practice The Web has been co-opted by new, large, faceless corporations who are not only once again controlling virtually all publishing, but conducting mass-surveillance and directing public sentiment while they do it.
