A good resource for this information is http://mactracker.ca which is an app that has a huge database of all Apple devices ever made, detailed specs, max official (and unofficial) upgrades, and max supported OS version.

When you watch Despecialized, note that the opening crawl of text says “Star Wars”, but does NOT say “Episode IV: A New Hope”. That was added years later after they re-released the film in anticipation of “Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back”.
The film is called Star Wars. Full stop.

It wasn’t in the original release of the film. It was added in the late ‘90s by George Lucas in the “Special Editions”, which were objectively and unequivocally worse than the original trilogy.
Specifically, this scene was shot before Jabba was visually designed, so Harrison Ford didn’t even know what he was looking at or talking to. It re-tells a story that was already well established by the encounter with Greedo just moments before, so it’s pointless to the plotline. The CGI was clumsy, but even good ‘90s CGI mixed with ‘70s practical effects makes the scene disjointed.
I highly recommend Harmy’s Despecialized Editions of the original trilogy. They are a remarkable effort of film preservation since Lucasfilm has no interest in preserving the theatrical versions of the films. And that is a shame because the Special Editions (including any official release of the films post-90s) are utter garbage.

Blackberry Ice Cream
Ingredients:
3 c whole blackberries (2 cups goop)
1¼ c sugar
1 tablespoon lemon juice
¼ t cinnamon
1½ c heavy whipping cream

Are there any really performant #nostr relay implementations that are still being developed?
I’m expecting thousands or even tens of thousands of simultaneous connections. And I really need NIP-42.
Strfry hasn’t been updated in 5 months. And it doesn’t support NIP-42.
Nostream is definitely popular, but I worry about the performance. And it doesn’t support NIP-42 either.
Maybe nostr-rs-relay?

That “couple decades of software running on personal computing hardware” was the time when whole families had only one computer in their household. Maybe two if you’re lucky. And certainly no smartphone.
Now, every person has their own laptop, phone, probably tablet, and maybe watch. And they expect them all to access the same data, whether they’re at home or on the go.
Networking might be better now, but proper network security is far too complex for your average (or even above-average) person to host a home server that can be safely accessed externally.
And the software isn’t really there yet either. Projects like #start9 help, but the big corporate services (Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Facebook, etc.) won’t give up easily and will always have better funding than any open source project.
Doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try. I think it’s a worthy goal.
Tl;dr: Yes, the hardware is good enough. No, the ecosystem is not ready for it.

This is a book I could give to any friend or family member who shows interest. They will be provided with the most up-to-date information, distilled down to the most crucial talking points. All without any condescension to the reader.

Yes. Capsaicin is oil-soluble, so when it is cooked, some of it will aerosolize and/or get thinned out in other oils in the food. Likewise, when pickled, the capsaicin is thinned out in the vinegar, which is a solvent.

You almost have it here, Derek, but not quite. In order to mute something, I am first forced to see it, internalize it, and then react to it.
While muting is a powerful tool, and should definitely be used, other tools also need to be available for those who choose to use them. I want to use a tool so I don’t have to be exposed to the bottom-feeders of Nostr AT ALL.
Not because I’m “weak”, or “love censorship” or any other inane label people would want to put on me. But because I want to control my experience on Nostr and that means not being exposed to the worst of the worst, even before I’m aware that it exists.
This is why I truly appreciate the work @npub1wmr…g240 is doing on @npub14h2…e2sh . Will it be perfect? Of course not! It’s the first of its kind. But it will get better and (this is the important bit) there will be others. If I don’t like how @npub14h2…e2sh is working, I can turn it off or choose another one.
Nostr is censorship-resistant not because there are no algorithms. But rather because there will eventually be SO MANY algorithms it will be impossible to game them all.

I always had a hard time imagining how smart contracts would logistically work in meatspace. It’s nice to hear from a lawyer, who actually understands them, answer: “They don’t.”
I do think that there’s a use-case for NFTs, though, and that is event tickets. Easy and safe to sell p2p online, and even buy anonymously. It would be instantly cryptographically verifiable that the ticket is genuine, not a duplicate, and not yet redeemed. Venues, bands, sports teams, conferences, etc. could mint their own tickets and sell them without an intermediary. And you get to “keep” the tickets to all the events you attended since they’d be attached to your public key.
I don’t know enough about the technical details of smart contracts, so maybe that’s what’s needed to make all this “work”. At least the escrow part of selling the tickets p2p? And/or the redeeming part where you actually enter the venue, making it so you can no longer sell the ticket to someone outside?
It’s interesting to think about. Of course, it destroys Ticketmaster’s business model, which is a stranglehold on the entire meatspace entertainment industry. I heard they make more money on reselling scalped tickets than the original sale. I don’t see them letting go easily.

Right now there are almost no algorithms. So there’s not really anything to game. Eventually there will be so many different algorithms that it’ll be impossible to game all, or even most of them at once. In the end the effect is the same lack of reward.

Making the starter is pretty straightforward. It just might take some time or it might just die out in which case keep trying.
Once you’re ready to make bread, you gotta figure out how to make it work for you: your climate, sourness preference, and fitting it into your schedule. It’s not straightforward right off the bat. But once you get your process down, it’s pretty repeatable.

Well, there’s “ready” and then there’s thriving. I spent a year making mediocre, too-flat sourdough, and then something switched on and the starter became more active. I’m sure it can be done in less time, but it’s always easier to get a starter from someone else. They always have tons to give away.
