This week, there's been a death in my circles (friend's family). Being Catholic, there's Mass; being Chinese, there's the white envelope (pak kam in Cantonese iirc). The way money gifts work in our cultures (for this, or weddings, or pilgrimages) meant to go into paying for the event or journey. Mutual aid, basically and originally. Usually the organizing committee will have empty packets on standby, because not everyone will have it on stock (it's more East Asian; Malays and the rest certainly adopted the idea but it's not necessary so it isn't seen to be rude to just slip in some uncovered cash).

Anyway, in a sign of the times that I take for granted (but certainly someone like npub1pqkcawxz93urvkuqeqtmk55zncp6hevdzar33xj8cs96q6jlm40qrjz65u (npub1pqk…z65u) will not), when we called ahead to check if there is going to be any pak kam to be received, we were reassured that not to worry, there's already a DuitNow QR Code on standby as well.
