there is literally two very desert islands south of the bay of Funchal that are literally called the desert islands, because nothing except a few cactus grow on it (i also met a forest ranger who does 2 weeks stints watching over it)
the south side of the island is very warm and dry all year around, but i live on the north side and it's wet and cold all year round
