There are perverse inversions of God's holy acts that the devil puts into the hearts of men and I believe chief among them are Cannibalism, Human Sacrifice (Child Sacrifice in extra particular), and Polytheism.
The world was originally monotheistic, there is no denying this. Even the most primitive of societies like the Aborigines have a one god, and societies that have been isolated for millenia like the Native Americans also have this. Cannibalism and Human Sacrifice are perversion of The Last Supper and The Crucifixion respectively, if you don't believe this there was a plane crash in Argentinean Andes where the survivors made the excuse that eating the bodies of the dead to survive "was just like Mass". Satan obviously had some prior knowledge of this since the creation and with his devils put it into the hearts of men, and I believe the savagery of the Aztecs and South American cannibal and human sacrificing tribes were his last efforts to damn the people since he knew that their isolation from the Old World would mean the Gospel would take long to reach there. We know Native Americans had the concept and veneration of an Almighty Creator God like Great Grandfather/Great Spirit despite their isolation.
Anyways that was a bit of a somewhat unrelated tangent building off what was said earlier about corn demons and evil spirits being the lands of North America and to some connection the Haitian voodoo dedication of their nation.
