PC makers are planning to ship more laptops with just 8 GB in 2026 to deal with the RAM shortage.
This got me curious, so I've been watching Task Manager to see memory usage on my Windows 11 system with 16 GB of RAM.
9 apps running: 97%
Quit 3 apps: 91%
Quit 3 more apps: 82%
Quit 1 more (2 left): 88% (?!)
Quit everything: 71%.
8 GB of RAM on a phone, a ChromeBook, hell, even on an M1 MacBook Air? Fine.
But a Windows 11 PC with 8 GB of memory is going to STARVE.
