From the outside, it sounded like they were a horrifyingly intrusive option for guys with something to lose. The whole vetting process, the odd national connection that made it sound like your info was cached away for a rainy (blackmail) day, it all sounded skeevy to me - and that's without talking about the fact it's evidently just hanging out & drinking with a bunch of underemployed guys hitting on your woman.
I just reached out to more distant cousins instead, rekindled family connections in place of joining a dissident network. Already proved helpful a few times over. Nothing beats blood.
Some good ideas in the pool party idea, but the execution gave me the willies, and when I asked even a little bit to see whether or not MY privacy/life/career had any safeguards protecting them I was med with "FED!"
