We don't have to be afraid of hard times or powerful enemies because we know how the story ends. Good triumphs and Evil is destroyed.
Also, although we may go through many hard times, even physical death, we know that "God works all things together for good of those who love the Lord." He knows that we grow most in hard times, not in good times. He wants what is best, not what is easiest or the most enjoyable. It is kind of like parents telling their kid they can't eat candy and cookies all day, but have to eat meat and vegetables. The candy and cookies might be more enjoyable, but the meat and vegetables are much better for them. Also, when believers go through hard times and/or persecution and stay faithful and joyful, it is a great witness that draws many others to Christ. "We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us., so we should seek to follow God's will and not seek the easy path.
