Initial jobless claims increase more than expected

Initial jobless claims for the week ended June 1 rose by 8K to 229K, higher than the expected 216K and the previous week's 221K. The four-week moving average decreased to 222.250K from the prior week's average of 223,000. Continuing claims increased slightly to 1.792M from the previous week's 1.790M. The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate remained unchanged at 1.2% for the week ended May 25.
