sorta, its possible the motherboard firmware shipped with broken NVMe boot support, but in the update that it isn't broken, it makes the older processors not work. Not enough memory on the motherboard to support all the processor microcode.
Such things are more common than you think.
I've been through several motherboard firmware updates that remove the ability to work with older processors. so they don't boot, then you need to change the processor to get it to boot.
