users explicitly signing their events is a form of disintermediation

when third party servers auth you and you publish, when people see it, the server be like

"trust me bro, it was that person"

this is why those systems are "social media" because they are between everyone

nostr, there is nothing between anyone other than relays passing signed events around, they don't vouch for them or do anything except usually check the signature matches the npub

when you are on nostr, and the relay sends you an event, it has the identity (npub) and you don't have to trust anyone, there's a signature there that matches the npub and the event

you don't have to delegate trust, you can verify the source of an event yourself, thus it is disintermediation - the elimination of go-betweens and men-in-the-middle
