My life on YouTube - and my internet life in general - has always been 90% about fandom. I like things. And I am prone to liking things quite intensely. Stuff that no one around me irl likes. So I dove into the internet quite early to connect with people and seek out content for the stuff I really like. Even social media was about fandom. It was bizarre to me all through middle and high school that kids from my class would go home to continue talking to each other all night in chatrooms or whatever. I joined social media to talk to strangers who just happened to be other fans. And honestly, I have no idea what people do with their time if their lives are devoid of fandom. I asked a work friend once. She says she cleans the apartment, watches documentaries, and smokes weed. 😂

Anyway, after clicking on one stray video that was recommended to me about friendship out of curiosity, I seem to have unlocked this other side of YouTube that's just... kind of... a drag? And I do wonder about the mindset of someone whose algorithm is all this kind of thing.
