Here's a bit of brutal honesty about my childhood adolescence:
I was raised by a family and a community riddled through with a highly reactionary, prejudicial culture. Hate and bigotry were normalized as wholesome, moral, and socially expected ways of seeing the world.
They tried rather hard to raise me to be one of them, and it might have taken hold if I were not a trans kid who was violently bullied by them for much of my childhood.
