About my profile picture. There’s a sound wave and a brush stroke in the style of a zen painting. It’s a depiction of a fleeting moment in time. I was inspired by the meaning behind Ensō (円相). The connection to the present is what makes music feel alive and without being in the moment we cannot really live.

Zen circle paintings, also known as Ensō (円相), hold deep meaning within Zen Buddhism. Here's what they represent:

Enlightenment & The Absolute: The circle symbolizes enlightenment, the universe, and the interconnectedness of everything.

The Present Moment: The act of drawing the Ensō is an act of being fully present. It's created in one or two fluid brushstrokes, with no room for hesitation or modification.

Letting Go: The Ensō embodies the idea of releasing control, perfectionism, and the ego. It emphasizes accepting the outcome as it is.

Imperfection: Ensō circles are often imperfect, some intentionally left open. This reflects the Zen idea of 'wabi-sabi', finding beauty in imperfection and impermanence.

Expression of the Self: While Ensō have symbolic meaning, the way each artist creates them is unique. It reveals their inner state at the moment of creation.

Beyond Symbolism:
Ensō can be used as meditation tools. Focusing on the circle can help quiet the mind and cultivate a sense of peace and acceptance.

Unfortunately, I didn’t paint my profile picture. It’s just the result of a prompt put into DALL-E. But with this as the first draft, I might have a go at painting later.
