Yes. 99.9% of all cats with more than two colors are females. The colors of a cat are determined by the X gene. A female cat has two X genes. Female =XX so each of her X chromosomes carry a color that will be expressed on her coat. So a 3 color cat most likely has X(white/orange) and X(white/black) so she shows with a calico pattern. Since a male cat has XY genes he only has one X chromosome and can only express 2 colors. In the very rare event that a cat with male genitalia is tri-colored, the cat has genes XXY. This is a genetic abnormality called Klinefelter syndrome and the cat will not likely be healthy and it will be infertile.
