Capitalism rant regarding the potential takeover by a Canadian company of 7&i (7Eleven):
I hate the term "activist investor." It sounds almost like these are investors who go in for social justice causes (could be, but usually not). Instead, they usually want to fundamentally alter a firm because it is, you guessed it, "not delivering shareholder value."
7&i is resisting by claiming to be a "core" business. This is right and correct. Let me explain:
