Granted, sometimes they solve a real problem. Food was spoiling, they sold us refrigerators.
But most the time, it's made up shit to make you buy shit you don't need, or they break things to make you have a problem. Remember phones you could buy a battery for? Did you ever once think "Damn, if only this battery was sealed away and difficult/impossible to replace?". I bet not. Now you have to buy a new $800+ phone instead of a $50 battery.
