I hate the mentality that follows are friendships. In terms of if you unfollow someone to curate your feed better you’re suddenly no longer friends with said person. There are people I talk to on a nearly daily basis who don’t follow me back. There are people I talk to that follow me that I don’t follow back. There are people I talk to who we don’t follow each other but end up in timelines anyway due to mutual connections. It’s much more complex.
