I'm reading nasty stuff about the DNC from the 1940s! What interests me is that my parents -- both radicals -- never talked to me about Truman administration corruption (so bad he dropped out of a '52 primary race). My mother said Stevenson wasn't elected due to Americans' "anti-intellectualism," but Dark Quadrant puts it down to the incredible corruption Truman reigned over and Howard Fast put it down to Stevenson's reluctance to end the war in Korea.
Admittedly I was born in '53 and wasn't around during the Truman administration, but I would have thought my mother knew about it. Dark Quadrant's author said most histories of the Truman era don't mention all the scandals (and they were legion).
