I took the day off to drive out to Princeton for a book talk with and stumbled across The Pole Farm in nearby Lawrenceville, PA.

In 1929, AT&T purchased 820 acres of land and built the world's largest shortwave radiotelephone transmitting station. Thousands of antenna poles were erected, giving it the nickname “The Pole Farm”.

These antennas facilitated the transmission of millions of international calls across the Atlantic to Europe, South America, Africa, and the Middle East.

AT&T shut down service in 1975 as advancements in satellite technology rendered the station obsolete.

As I walked through the park, I couldn’t help but think about all the technological innovation that had to proceed #Bitcoin before it could become what it is today: a global, scarce, permissionless, decentralized, immutable, pseudonymous, secure & transparent digital money the world has ever seen.

I also thought about how quickly technological innovation can render previous technology obsolete. I pondered how #Bitcoin will inevitably do to gold & fiat what satellites did to The Pole Farm. It’s not a question of “if” but “when”.

Anyway, back to sipping my coffee before heading to the talk!
