Here's a random post to counter what we normally see in social media.
In addition to being filled with filters, social media is filled with retakes. People will take a picture multiple times and then only show the best one, which provides the idea that the picture they posted represents the baseline for how that setting looks, which is generally unrealistic. It's the best shot at the best time with the best intentions.
The other day I went to NYC, and went up to an office I normally go to when I'm there, which has great views of the city. This day had clearer than normal weather, and I thought, "I'll take a pic."
The first one was a dumpster fire. Sun in my face making for both squinting and unflattering lighting. Hair all frizzy from just coming in from the wind at 8am (took a pic while I literally still have my coat and backpack on). Crooked glasses as the cherry on top.
So I see the laughable result, go and fix my hair for like a minute, pick a different angle, and retake the pic. It's still not amazing of course, but it's way better than the first dumpster fire pic, and only like 3 minutes later.
Now imagine all the people that put makeup on or filters on, and how different their pics look from their reality.
Never compare your first drafts to other peoples' final drafts. It's always a mess out there.

How advanced, or what types of advancement, would it take to convince you to get a cybernetic brain implant in the future?
-Substantially improves a major disability (blindness, paralysis, brain damage, etc)
-Boosts sensory abilities beyond normal (eyesight, hearing, etc).
-Boosts IQ or some other meaningful metric of intelligence and computation, thereby increasing your competitiveness in multiple fields. Becomes basically necessary for some fields due to many others doing it.
-Lets you enter VR with all five senses in a way that feels like 80-90% realistic but can be any environment/context. People make increasingly awe-inspiring virtual experiences/worlds, only accessible this way.
-Substantially increases the bandwidth with which you can interface with computers. Like, lets you download a ton of info quickly.

My husband’s 8-year-old niece is having a birthday party with relatives and friends invited. But all seven friends declined to come, one by one, either due to getting sick or family issues or because some of them have big tests.
And the mom was hesitant to tell her about the last ones, including her best friend, being unable to come, since that final piece of news is devastating. So when we arrived, the niece was super happy, dressed up like a princess, showing us all the decorations and picking which colored forks each of her friends would have for the cake.
Basically, the expectations and reality couldn’t be more starkly different. It was like a comedy show setting up for a sad punchline. And eventually the mom dropped the bombshell, crying ensued, etc. The niece said this would be awful since her party would be all adults talking.
So, now I’m playing My Little Pony with her for damage control. Next, I’m going to blow up a lot of balloons to throw around with her and challenge her to see how many she can keep in the air at once. And then she wants to watch Inside Out 2 together.

No. They have few siblings and none of those few had children. There is one aunt I’ve never met that I don’t think married but I’m not 100% sure. So I have no known first cousins and probably no first cousins period.

I was chilling with my husband’s extended family and everyone was counting how many first cousins they had. One of them had over 50 first cousins. Another had over 30. All of them had over 10.
Then it came to me and I had been going through it in my head and I was like, “uh… zero. Huh.”

Things like getting a new smart tv set properly, or maintaining stable WiFi for devices throughout a home at all times, are still nontrivial tasks in the year 2025.
There’s often some friction, some gadget failing for no apparent reason, etc.
So I think we’re safe from the robot overlords for a little while more.

There’s a second set of four Mistborn books set later, but they follow different characters, since the core trilogy stands on its own. There are strong references to the core trilogy in them though.
I don’t like those books as much as the core trilogy, but they’re okay. They’re purposely more pulpy and less epic.
Sanderson is going to make two more Mistborn series, each set a bit further in the future. I don’t know how good they’ll be but that world isn’t done yet.
Sanderson has other books set in the broader shared universe. Stormlight Archives is the best-known of them, as it’s going to be ten 1000+ page books, with five out. There are some minor Stormlight/Mistborn crossover details in them.
I’d consider recommending Stormlight, but I am hesitant. The first two books are incredible. Up there with Mistborn, and more complex with characters you get really attached to. The third is still pretty good. The fourth and fifth in my view (and a nontrivial percentage of fans view) start to decline. So unless the sixth and subsequent books get better, I am more hesitant with recommending Stormlight.
Of all his countless books, his core Mistborn trilogy is my favorite because it’s a well-done complete epic tale from start to finish.
