But the ligatures used in coding fonts are just as accurate as the "normal" characters IMHO, they just look nicer. I never had any doubt about what is going to happen.
They also fit into the cell grid, having "<=>" use just as much space as its ligature. Even syntax highlighting continues to put the right colors on the right parts of the ligature. It is surprisingly neat.
