Sadly I am not well-read in the area, but generally it seems to me that people need the ability to sort themselves out to be with those like them.
We had, when I was growing up, a great LGBT neighborhood in this city. It was segregation, in the same way all of the ethnic and religious groups segregated into their own neighborhoods, but it worked.
It seems to make sense to expand upon this notion, even if I am foggy on the details.
