While this is true, I think those of us who have free time to spend are privileged and need to recognise that. If one has two jobs plus a family to care for, it's not a question of "going to the gym or gardening" but rather "doing laundry/cooking/other necessary household chores or gardening". In those situations it doesn't matter if gardening offers "free" exercise and recreation, because the time to do it is just not there.
