To be clear, none of the above is trying to dismiss — it's me expressing frustration and confusion at unclear reporting about exactly what the implications of Google's latest fuckery are likely to be.

E.g. the government ID bit is absolutely terrible, but I didn't see that anywhere other than on Google's official post.
