I’d like to ask for some help for one of my closest friends.
She has a geology degree and currently has a job in a lab detecting asbestos. She’s had professional training and experience in several different microscopy techniques.
She really enjoys what she does, but the management situation is a complete shitshow. She’s doing the work of three people, has to beg for help from other departments, has a manipulative psycho over her, and on top of it, despite being the longest remaining employee in a position with rapid turnover because of this toxic work environment, isn’t making enough money to ever retire.
She is looking for another laboratory, or possibly research, position of some kind that will hire her, pay enough, and have a team that functions at least barely.
If they will consider her, it could even be a chemistry lab. She actually really enjoyed and was good at chromatography and many other chemistry techniques, but many employers see “geology degree” and don’t realize that means she’s qualified to work in a chemistry lab as well.
She is willing to move, so it doesn’t matter where the job is.
She has been working hard trying to find a new position, but there just aren’t that many. Trying to help her with reach.
