Tech transfer programs have, in my experience, set up *incredibly* hostile and antagonistic incentives for how universities treat students.
E.g.: at the University of Waterloo, *supposedly* students own IP rights to their own research. In *practice*, this means the university ignores it when companies friendly to their tech transfer offices steal student work.
I'm glad a study finally put some numbers to that whole racket.
