You are definitely speaking my language again now. My research is on grades and suggesting we move away from them because they are, essentially, just biassed signals to the labor market (and I do not serve the labor market).

And I agree the sorting and signaling at the heart of the education process sacrifices learning (and largely kills off kids' innate desire to learn) for the sake of getting into the "best" school to signal value to future employers.
