I'm one of those Gen X'ers...56 yrs old now...and never included social security in my retirement calculations (but I am including #bitcoin nowadays). Oh, and I'm one of those semi-retired guys now. Went from a software exec/analytics consultant to a tennis teaching pro and high school tennis coach.
Wanted to give back while I was young enough to give those high school players a "run for their money" during practice...while teaching work ethic and aligning expectations with effort.
