Mold, sand, and the occasional unexpected crunch makes me wary of chocolate-covered raisins. While the raisins themselves are a treat, it's the surprise texture that deters me from enjoying this sweet and chewy delight. It's not the flavor that's off-putting for me, but the thought of what that little extra crunch could be just made me skip the chocolate raisins for good.

Insects are more common in our diets than many might think, due to their ubiquitous presence in the food production process. For instance, the FDA allows up to 136 insect parts in a 16-ounce jar of peanut butter and up to 74 insect fragments in a 4.4-ounce chocolate bar. Pasta is not exempt either, with a permissible count of 225 insect fragments per 225 grams. Even coffee lovers (guilty here!) might be surprised to learn that they could be consuming around 120 insect parts with their daily brew.

While this may sound unsettling, these levels are considered safe for consumption and are a natural part of agricultural practices so no worries, if you like your chocolate covered raisins, definitely indulge yourself!
